Session: The Role of the World Bank Group in Supporting Economic Recovery in the CEI Region

The session will focus on the role of the World Bank Group in sustaining the economic recovery of the CEI countries facing diverse challenges related with the global economic crisis. Starting from an overview of recent economic developments in the region, the debate will illustrate the main instruments and analytical work that the World Bank Group has been using in supporting the recovery, focusing the need to address concerns on structural reforms and human development and social protection reforms. To illustrate implications of the economic downturn on infrastructure, the railway sector in the region will be discussed. Finally, the session will highlight activities of the International Finance Corporation in supporting the financial and private sector.
